No one asked me to quit AMMA: Dileep
text_fieldsIn a setback to Nihanlal, actor and president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), actor Dileep has said that no one had asked for his resignation.
It was on Friday that Mohanlal, stated at a press conference in Kochi that he had personally called Dileep and asked him to tender his resignation. ‘He readily gave it and his resignation was accepted,’ Mohanlal had said.
In his letter to AMMA, Dileep has said that there is a hidden conspiracy to destroy the association and since he does not want that to happen, he has resigned.
He further added that many artists in the industry survive with the help of AMMA and that the body should continue to be of help to such people.
‘Since I am being wrongly accused and blamed, I wish to extend my resignation’, he added.
Actor Dileep was expelled from the association after he was arrested in 2017 actress attack case. He was released later after which the association announced that it was taking him, a move which the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) questioned.
The actress who was assaulted had previously complained to AMMA that she had been denied acting opportunities because of Dileep.
Although AMMA and WCC held several meetings, AMMA continued to resist pressure to remove Dileep from the organization until Friday when it officially announced his resignation.
