Kannur: BJP President Amit Shah is all set to visit Kannur on October 27, Saturday.

The party leadership has some major plans for him in the region, according to party sources here.

Shah is likely to visit Pinarayi, the home town of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He will be inaugurating Mararji Mandiram, the Kannur district committee office of the BJP. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10 am.

The BJP supremo who would also address a public meeting would set the ball rolling for the election campaign, unofficially, said the party sources.

He is also likely to visit the house of a couple of party martyrs, including K V Remid, who was stabbed to death in broad daylight at Pinarayi in October 2016.

“Though Lok Sabha elections are a few months away, it is time to formulate the strategy well in advance and his visit is likely to give momentum to it, though the campaign will formally begin only later’, said BJP state executive member K Renjith.

The new office would function as a hub to coordinate the election activities in three northern districts, Kasaragod, Kannur and Wayanad, the leader said, adding that many national leaders were expected to visit the district in the coming months.

Though the BJP had announced that Shah would visit Pinarayi as part of the Janaraksha Yatra of the party in October 2017, he later skipped the plan, causing huge embarrassment to the party leadership.
