Kannur: The Centre would sanction Rs 3,000 crore for two National Highway projects in Kerala, Union Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said Tuesday.

Speaking at a function at nearby Eranholi in Kannur district after laying the foundation stone of the projects, he said the total cost of two projects would be Rs 3,000 crore.

He assured that the projects would be cleared, though some objections had been raised.

Gadkari said he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan earlier in the day.

The projects are the 39 km Thalapady-Changala stretch and the Changala-Neeleswaram-manjeswaram road, both in the northern part of Kerala.

Gadkari said the BJP-led NDA government was focusing on infrastructure development. For this, four sectors are very important-- agriculture, industry, service and manufacturing, he said.

The Minister said though the state government had sought Rs 603 crore from the Central Road fund for development of National Highways, the centre would sanction Rs 450 crore as a special case because of the massive destruction faced by the state during floods.

"You immediately send the proposal and we will clear it", he said.
