Malappuram: Sayed Mueen Ali Thangal, the national vice president of Youth League and also the son of Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal has come up with strong comments against P V Abdul Wahab for his absence in the debates on triple talaq bill in Rajya Sabha.

"It was a big mistake from the part of a Muslim League leader and the party is also responsible for this. If he has any health issues or any other practical difficulties to be active in such political debates,  he should pave way for other capable leaders,"  Mueen Ali told the media in Malappuram on Thursday.

During the discussion in Rajya Sabha, the lone Muslim League MP of the house did not get a chance to speak when his turn came,  as he was not present in the house. Though he  rushed in late and approached the chairman seeking a chance to speak,  the Chair declined to grant his request. Mueen Ali told that the MP should have been more alert and participated in the discussion effectively as the situation in the country is serious.

This was not the first time that an IUML MP is facing the wrath of the party cadres for a similar laxity. In the vice-president elections in August 2017, both Abdul Wahab and Lok Sabha MP PK Kunhalikutty could not cast their votes in the elections of the party as their flight was delayed.

In December 2018, Kunhalikutty failed to attend the Lok Sabha session while the House discussed the triple talaq bill.

Recently, Abdul Wahab drew ire of the party cadres for his controversial statement on NIA Amendment Bill.  The MP commented then that the party would neitheroppose nor support the bill.  Critics alleged that the statement showed the soft stand of IUML against BJP.
