Kochi: A 23-year-old man was crushed to death after he fell from the motorcycle and being run over by a truck on Thursday morning here.

Yedulal, a student who moonlighted as a food delivery boy, was trying to evade one-foot deep pothole on the road near Palarivatom metro station.

Witnesses said that he fell from the motorcycle after hitting on the board placed near the pothole for covering up it. Yedulal succumbed to injuries at a hospital here.

The incident stirred protest as this was the second bad-roads-linked death in the city this week.

Youth Congress and BJP workers later blocked the road seeking action against officials responsible for road repairs.

People said that authorities didn’t pay heed to their several complaints about the dangerous pothole.

Meanwhile, various government departments responsible for the potholes passed the buck as the public rage over the death peaked.

State Water Works Minister K Krishnankutty has ordered a probe. Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain said the PWD didn’t act despite the corporation’s several complaints. The State Human Rights Commission has also registered a case.
