Thiruvananthapuram: Lack of enough IAS/IPS officials causes serious administrative crisis in the state.

At least 30 officials are tasked with three departmental responsibilities in the state service.

They juggle incompatible duties, seriously affecting routine works at various departments.

Officials choosing deputation to Centre service occurred during LDF regime too. At least 44 officials are on leave for educational purposes abroad.

Of the total 403 cadres of IAS-IPS, 231 are IAS and 172 are IPS. However, the state is currently run by 123 IAS officials and 95 IPS.

The government report puts the required additional number of IAS at 84 and IPS 55.

Twenty two each IAS and IPS officials of Kerala cadre are on deputation in the central service, and the remaining are on leave.

There is an uptick in number of officials in Kerala cadre taking educational leave after entering the service.
