Kochi: The BJP state core committee meeting held here on Sunday failed to arrive at a consensus on the new state president.

The vacancy came up after P S Sreedharan Pillai was picked for the position of the governor of Mizoram.

The names emerged in the meeting include state secretaries like K. Surendran, Shoba Surendran, and MT Ramesh.

With the state core committee failed to make consensus, the central intervention appears to be imminent.

The state president will be selected after considering the opinion of the RSS leadership as well.

The decision is delayed because of splintering of opinion among various groups in the party.

The faction led by Muralidharan favours K. Surendran, while Krishnadas-led group threw its weight behind Ramesh.

Senior leader including O Rajagopal were batting for Shoba Surendran. Given the situation, it seems that the Central leadership is likely to have discussion with the state leaders.

Emerging from the meeting, M T Ramesh said that there was no difference in the party over selecting the president.

The decision is pending because of the delay in implementing organizational procedures.
