Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that though social media has many good effects, its misuse is causing serious troubles.

He said that the demand to draft law to control social media is under consideration. Instances of abusing the opposite views using fake IDs are not few. Trend of abusing women, children, social activists, cinema artists and politicians is gaining momentum.

Existing laws are not enough. Service providers' cooperation is essential to prove the registered cases in cyber crimes and to identify the criminals.

There are difficulties in dealing with fake IDs as we are bound by to international laws in this regard. In many cases, foreign countries have the origin of such IDs. There are ways to make fake IDs and foreign phone numbers without informing the service providers.

At present legal actions is pursued according to IPC and IT Act, he said.
