Malappuram: Muslim League's stance against economic reservation is garnering wide public support.

AIDMK, Muslim League and AIMIM were the only parties who opposed the bill.  PK Kunjalikkutty and ET Mohammed Basheer voted against the bill along with Asaduddin Owaisi. Congress MLA VT Balram, in a Facebook post praised the league MPs,  while at the same time deriding those on the left and right wings for their support for the very concept of economic reservation.

Various Dalit groups and collectives also came in support of League's stance. People in social media pointed out that there were only three Muslim MPs to raise voice on behalf of backward communities. Congress and CPM were criticised for their stance.

PK Kunjalikutty's absence at triple talaq bill debate in parliament had drawn strong criticism from different quarters. Muslim League leadership assesses that the blow it suffered was levelled to an extent through its votes against economic reservation and the speech by its parliamentarian ET Mohammed Basheer.

Followers and sympathisers who had severely criticised the party on triple talaq bill, wholeheartedly supported its stance against economic reservation.
