Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has come out protesting against Mata Amritanandamayi for her participation in the  Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam, organised by the BJP.    In a veiled reference to the claim that Lord Ayyappa is a celibate and so not to be visted by women of menstruating age, he said, “Amritanandamayi, who is celibate, has met many male and female devotees alike in her life. Did she lose her celibacy?”.

Balakrishnan, while speaking at a workshop organized by EMS Academy, also said that Amritanandamayi is participating in this event in order to unite the right-wing groups in Kerala.  He asked what is the logic behind her participation in the Ayyappa Bhakta Sangamam.

He pointed out that a political alliance is in the making  mentiong the support extended by NSS to Karmasamiti.

Amritanandamayi Math is supposed to work transcending politics.  People who work along with the math have different political associations.  But here Amrithanadamayi has participated in a programme organized by Karmasamithi that is mobilized by RSS which lacks support of the believers.

In north India, religious cults are involving themselves in politics.  If the same trend is followed, north Indian situation will be creted here too.  There are conspicuous moves to replicate north Indian trends in Kerala.  An alliance of parties with wider left politics has to be formed against this trend, Kodiyeri said.
