New Delhi: Malayalam literary giant Dr. M Leelavathy won the coveted Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for her translation of ‘Srimad Valmiki Ramayanam’ from Sanskrit to Malayalam.
The literary critic and author will be honoured with a plaque and a purse of Rs 50,000.
Others to win the award included Kulachal Muhammad Yousuf for the translation of ‘Thaskaran – Maniyan Pillayude Athmakadha by G R Indugopan’ into Tamil as ‘Thirudan Maniyin Pillai.
Manoj Kumar Swami bagged the award for translating Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai’s Chemmeen into Rajasthani language as ‘Na Baar Jaal’.
A jury consisting of K Jayakumar, K Muthulakshmi and K S Venkitachalam picked up the books.
