Thiruvananthapuram: The 20th anniversary of the victory in the Kargil war was celebrated at Pangode Military Station Friday.

'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is dedicated to the memory of all armed forces personnel who laid down their lives for the defence of the country during the 1999 war. Air Marshal B Suresh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, inaugurated the celebrations.

"We came together to pay homage to the people who had laid down their lives to protect our nation. They displayed an act of valour and courage," Suresh told mediapersons.

Air Vice Marshal B Chandra Sekhar, senior officer in-chargeadministration, Southern Air Command, Brigadier C G Arun, Station Commander, Pangode Military Station, and representatives of all the three services laid a wreath and paid homage at the war memorial.

The military camp also organised various programmes as part of the celebrations.

On July 28, there would be a movie show for children and on July 30, an air show by the Indian Air Force.
