Kottayam bags rare distinction in blood donation

Kottayam: Kottayam collects over 90 percent of blood units via voluntary donation, gaining a rare distinction in the state. 

 Where the state-level average in blood donation is only 74.5 percent, Kottayam stands at 90.6 percent collecting 15,901 units, according to District Medical Officer Jacob Varghese.

Thanks to the widespread awareness campaign alongside 20 functioning blood banks in the district that helped the district achieve this feat. 

Also, Pala on Friday will host the district-level Blood Donor Day celebrations.
