Thiruvananthapuram: LS polls in Kerala may well be the toughest in decades. Thanks, all parties in the fray will hone in on winning maximum numbers.

For LDF surviving at the national level depends hugely on winning more seats, where UDF led by Congress wants to topple BJP-led NDA. As for BJP, opening an account in Kerala is a matter of pride.

Just as Kerala is going to polls on April 23, leaders have already started whetting poll strategies behind the scenes. In view of the assembly elections in Kerala just two years away, the LS polls will be critical for LDF as well.

The gradient of majority resulting from the Lokh Sabha election will decide who will be in power after assembly polls.

Alongside issues that matter nationally, Kerala will discuss a panoply of topics from flood to Sabarimala stand off to farmer suicides to church row.

The list of candidates brought out by LDF will ensure a pitched-fight in nearly all constituencies.  UDF is all set to field even stronger candidates. Meanwhile, campaigning with posters, and wall writings has already set in across the state. Meeting and conferences at constituencies will start soon.

Without fail, LDF has stolen the march on UDF bringing out list of candidates. This time, CPM has in the fray six of the party’s lawmakers and two district secretaries.  However, not everybody out there is happy about seat sharing, especially Janata dal and NJD.

LDF pins its hopes on best performance of the government. Failing in Kerala will loom large on the party’s importance at the national level.

As part of its poll strategy, LDF celebrated 1000 days of the government announcing 1000 new projects. Opposition UDF has somehow managed seat sharing, leaving those disgruntled still grousing.

Except Muslim League, no other outfits in UDF have announced their lists. Congress will contest from 17 seats, leaving one seat for Kerala Congress Mani group.

Given the biggies in the LDF list, there are calls in UDF camps to field leaders including Oomen Chandy, V M Sudheeran, and KC Venugopal.

Hinting at a pitched-fight, BJP has hauled to fray Kummanam Rajasekaran. Also, this is the first Lokh Sabha polls the BJP-BDJS alliance is going to fight since its formation, pinning hopes on Sabarimala row.
