Thiruvananthapuram: Penal actions would be taken against officials involved in sham postal voting in police force.  

Loknath Behera, the state police chief, submitted on Tuesday a probe report regarding to this to Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena.  Action based on the report will be taken on Wednesday, ECO said.

In his letter with the report submitted to CEO, police chief stated in favour of taking action against erring officials.

Also, Behera said action would be taken after receiving the reply of Chief Election Officer.

If found guilty, the accused will have to first face departmental action and then action under provisions of the Representation of the People Act and the Election Rules, according to Meena.

Meanwhile, the Congress in a submission to CEO sought action against those involved in the sham postal voting demanding all the postal votes of the policemen be annulled.

The left leaning faction in police association allegedly appropriated most of the postal votes.  Following this, CEO had sought a probe report from DGP.
