Don’t chase down riders without helmets: HC
text_fieldsKochi: The Kerala high court on Wednesday directed police not to chase down two-wheeler riders traveling without helmet under any circumstances.
Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V observed so while granting bail to a two-wheeler rider accused of hitting MVD official with bike as the officer tried to stop him.
Counsel for the two-wheeler argued that the accident happened as the official tried to grab the handle of the bike thus the rider lost control and hit the official.
“Under no circumstances shall a two-wheeler rider be pursued in a ‘hot chase’ for booking him for not wearing a helmet as this is likely to put the life of the officer and the traffic offender to peril. Several lives have been lost by these adventurous acts and it is high time that remedial measures are taken.” The court said.
