Kochi: The High Court on Tuesday quashed the appointment of 10 assistant professors in the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

The order by Justice Shaji P Chaly came in response to the petitions filed by Dr P Satheesh of Kasaragod and others, in relation to the appointments made in 2016.

The entire process to select assistant professors violated the Minimum Qualification Regulations, 2010 and the University Act, 2013, the court ruled

The court termed the appointments illegal, arbitrary and unsustainable under law, and cancelled the appointments of Jainy Varghese, V Sreeja, Manjusha Varma, K S Hakeem, R Danya, Sreeraj, N G Sreeja, S S Swapna Rani, R Vidhya and Sudheer Salam as assistant professors.

Also, the court said that the university could appoint teachers on contract to conduct classes.

These appointments were made when former chief secretary K Jayakumar was the vice-chancellor of the university.
