Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Tuesday strictly forbade the use of mobile phones in the schools.

In the similar vein, the government banned teachers from using social media in the schools. 

The move by the general education department is part of its efforts to address the issue of phone addiction.

Despite the standing orders that banned mobile phones, mobile phones have been in use in the schools.

The ban on social media use by teachers during school hours is a novel step towards tightening the law.
