Kannur:  The district has started topping in confirmed COVID-19 cases over the week, sending jitters.

Of 38 cases tested positive in the past week, 21 are from the district. However, Kasargaod tested 7 positive dwindling from its peak, which was also state’s peak.

Every day until April 6 Kasaragod topped in confirmed cases. Back then, of 13 confirmed cases in the state, 9 were from Kasaragod.

By April 7 the situation changed worse for kannur. Three of the four confirmed cases on that day belonged to Kannur.

On Wednesday when the state let off steam with just one case, Kannur was still on the list.  Kannur is topping in contact spread too, with 18 cases so far. That includes 10 members of a family.

Of the 7 confirmed cases on April 11, five were from contact spread.  4 cases reported on April 10 emerged from contact with a previously confirmed patient from Cheruvanchery.

However, health officials link more confirmed cases to more sample tests done, compared to other districts.

Hundred people on average, including Gulf returnees and contact cases, are being tested each day.

Of the 7013 referred to isolation, 6584 are staying in their homes.  More than 500 samples are to be tested yet, which will be finished by April 20.

84 confirmed cases have been reported in the district so far.

With the rise in cases, the district has been put under strict orders. Police have blocked roads at several places.
