Kasaragod: In suspected data breach, calls from unknown numbers keep coming to recovered COVID-19 patients here, seeking their personal details.

Calls that may have been made from Bangaluru sought details including passport numbers, the date of arrival, when they tested positive, when they recovered, the country from where they arrived.

Callers, never revealing their identities, spoke in broken Malayalam and fluent Hindi.

Truecaller app and Aarogya Setu, the governemnt’s COVID-19 tracking app, marked the calls as spam.

One of the recovered patients, Mohammed Sadik said that callers sounded fraud as they didn’t share any details.

When he refused to share with his details, the caller switched over to broken Malayalam before hanging up.

Another recovered patient who got the call later learnt that many others also received same calls.

The police reportedly said that they were investigating the incident but didn’t know who was calling.
