Thiruvanathapuram: The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Opposition came down heavily on the government’s “unilateral” salary challenge to employees.

UDF friendly service outfits said that they would approach court against ‘compulsory’ salary challenge.

They said that alongside dropping the compulsory salary challenge, employees including police and primary teachers should be exempted from the move.

Appropriating a month’s salary would not be allowed, they said.

Former Chief Minister Oomen Chandy said in a statement that the government should take into confidence employees regarding the salary challenge.

He also said the decision is a welcome move on the part of the government.
