Body of 6-year-old missing child found in river

Kollam: Bringing to tears entire Kerala, the body of six-year-old Devananda was found in the river near home Friday morning.

Following her missing since Thursday, social media was abuzz with an all-out campaign to trace her, which eventually ended in tears when divers retrieved her body from Ithikkara River in Elavoor.

Police, Fire and Rescue officials had led public searching for the grade one student aka Ponnu, of Saraswathi Vidya Nikethan School at Vakkanadu, Kollam.

Celebrities, including film actors Mammootty, Mohanlal and Kunchacko Boban, had shared the angst joining the social media campaign.

Devananda was at home when she went missing. Her mother Dhanya was washing clothes and asked her to take care of the there-month old brother who was sleeping. Later when Dhanya returned Devananda was nowhere to be found and her search in the neighbourd didn’t help either.

Devananda’s father Pradeep is working abroad who will reach Kerala Friday morning.
