Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch on Tuesday submitted to the Thalassery Additional District Court the chargesheet in the sensational Palathayi child abuse case involving a local BJP leader.

Relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act and Indian Penal Code have been invoked in the chargesheet.

The investigation will continue in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) case and if needed, a fresh chargesheet will be filed, according to IG ( crimes) S Sreejith,

Police arrested BJP leader Kuniyil Padmarajan, 45, a school teacher at Panur in Kannur district, on April 15 on charges of sexually abusing a girl student of the school and a Pocso case was registered against him.

Police had come under criticism for not arresting him even weeks after the complaint was filed on March 17. Later, the state government handed over the case to the Crime Branch.
