Kollam: Alappad Panchayat has filed a complaint against Amritanandamayi Math for concealing data, of inmates from foreign countries, violating the directives issued by the government in the wake of Covid 19.
The inmates were taken to Karunagapally on Tuesday and Wednesday for sample testing after the district collector’s order. Amritanandamayi Math is one of the spot in the district where many foreigners live. As part of Covid spread, visit to the Math and Amritanandamayi’s grace giving were suspended. Outsiders were prevented entry for Sanyasa Deeksha programme held days ago.
However, it is alleged that the Math refused to give information of the foreign inmates. Math authorities refused to give proper details of foreign inmates when they were approached by the officials of the panchayat and the Health Department. It is pointed out that the given details were contradictory.
Thereafter, at a meeting called by the district collector, the Math authorities blamed that Health Department had not asked for details. The samples of the inmates were taken after a directive issued by the collector in the meeting.
Last day, Panchayat Member R. Baby had criticised the Math’s stance in a Facebook post.
The panchayat decided to file complaint the issue became a controversy.
However, the Math authorities denied any violation of the government directives. All details regarding those who are in isolation after returning from foreign countries were given to health officials. All other allegations are baseless. The Math authorities also said that the 58 inmates who had come after 25th February were placed in isolation and none of them were diagnosed with any symptoms.
