Kerala HC allows 237 people without passes enter state through Walayar
text_fieldsKochi: Taking note of the plight of people stuck at Walayar checkpost, the Kerala High Court on Sunday issued a one-off order allowing them entry to the state.
Many of 237 people had been waiting since Saturday, to enter the state.
However, the government interacted with the Tamil Nadu government to stop people without valid passes coming to the border.
“Immediate attention and preference shall be given to pregnant women, elderly and children. Others shall also be issued passes at the earliest avoiding unnecessary delay since they are stranded (on the border) from May 5,” observed the division bench.
The court however made it clear that the direction issued had been given considering the special circumstances, and was not setting precedent for any future purposes.
