Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that an understanding has been made with the Muslim leaders at a video conference, to hold congregational prayers on the Eid day at homes, considering the extraordinary situation.

In an unusual situation, prayers could not be conducted in Masjids in the holy month of Ramadan. It is full well realised Congregational prayer held in Eid Gahs and Masjids on Eid day is key to the celebration. Abandoning the prayers on Eid day are painful to the faithful.

The video conference was held to explore the steps to be taken in the wake of the pandemic. The scholars were lauded for their decision and for their cooperation by dropping the mass prayers considering the welfare and future of the people.  Movement of people to collect Zakat amounts should also be avoided.

At the meeting it was decided to deliver the Zakat amounts at homes of the needy.  Complete lockdown is observed on Sundays. However, if Eid ul Fitr falls on Sunday, relaxations will be considered, the Chief Minister said.
