Police arrest the man who had his wife allegedly bitten and killed by a cobratext_fields
Kollam: Husband of a 25-year-old woman in Kollam reportedly confessed to the police as having killed her by releasing a cobra to bite her.
Sooraj, hailing from Parakode, Adoor, bought snakes from a snake-catcher and had Uthra killed in his second attempt on the wee hours of May 7 when she was asleep.
He paid Rs 10,000 for two snakes, the first was a viper.
She was recuperating in her parents’ home from the first attempt which had taken place on March 2 at Sooraj’s house.
On the night of her death, Uthra was sleeping in the air-conditioned bedroom and in the morning Sooraj alerted the family about the snake bite and Uthra’s death.
Afterwards, he had beaten the snake to death.
In the first attempt, Sooraj arranged a viper from Suresh, a snake-catcher, paying for Rs 5,000 on February 26 and kept it in a plastic container in his home.
After viper bit her Sooraj allegedly delayed her hospitalization. However, Uthra was taken to a hospital where she recuperated and went to home to join her parents in Anchal.
On April 24, Sooraj bought a cobra from Suresh for Rs 5,000, and took it to Uthra's house in a plastic container inside a bag on May 6.
Around 2:30am on May 7, Sooraj opened the bottle and tossed the snake on the sleeping Uthra.
After the snake bit her, Sooraj chased it away to a corner, and stayed up till morning.
The family became suspicious of his presence in both incidents.
Uthra’s parents alleged that Sooraj had an eye on Uthra’s wealth. They filed a complaint with the police over missing of the jewellery , their wedding present to her.
Police took into custody Sooraj, Suresh and another accomplice on Sunday.
