Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Congress leaders on Wednesday participated in ‘Maun Satyagraha’ (silent protest) over Gujarat High Court’s order against Rahul Gandhi in the ‘Modi surname’ defamation case.

Several Congress leaders including MLAs, MPs, and former ministers gathered in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Gandhi Park in Thiruvanthapuram for the silent protest.

Congress State President K. Sudhakaran, Leader of Opposition V.D.Satheesan, and MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Rajmohan Unnithan, and K Muraleedharan led the Satyagraha.

The ‘Maun Satyagrah’ began at 10 a.m and will continue till 5 p.m.

Last week, the Gujarat HC dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s plea to stay his conviction and two-year jail term in a criminal defamation case that cost him his Lok Sabha membership.

To protest against the order, the Congress Committee had decided to organize a day-long ‘Muan Satyagraha’ at all the state headquarters on July 12.
