New Delhi: Journalist and CPI(M) MP from Kerala John Brittas wrote Home Minister Amit Shah seeking action against the teaser of "The Kerala Story", aired on YouTube, which propagates fake ideas to malign the name state as well as intents to topple its secular fabric.

The teaser of the movie, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen, is "outraging the religious feelings and promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion," the Rajya Sabha MP's letter read.

He said that the teaser claims that 32,000 women from Kerala were radicalised to join ISIS, the terrorist group, which is not true.

"The teaser claims to be depicting the story of 32,000 women in Kerala who were radicalised to join the ISIS terrorist group, which is absolutely rubbish and fallacious. Such dissemination of grossly false info, ration may lead to inconceivable repercussions, and unrest in the society, and the same will amount to defaming the State as well," the letter read.

He added that the false narrative through the teaser is spreading massively across social media. It had already started creating distrust and perturbation among sections of the country, picturing a "ludicrously fictitious story" claiming to be true events.

He said, "It is not only derogatory in nature but also are afraid to be aimed at causing communal divide and tensions between various religions, which therefore entails serious penal consequences."

The letter said that such deliberate and sinister plots must be dealt with with an iron fist, "as per various criminal Statutes like IPC Sections of 153A, 153B, 295A and 505.

The teaser of the movie gave rise to flak from many quarters. Earlier, the Congress party had called for a ban as the teaser gathered the public's attention and created supporting and opposing comments on social media.
