Thiruvananthapuram: Justice Ashish J. Desai was sworn in as the new Kerala High Court Chief Justice on Saturday.

Desai is the 38th Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.

He succeeds Justice Sarasa Venkatanarayana Bhatti, who was recently elevated to the post of Supreme Court judge.

In a solemn ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office to Desai.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, members of his cabinet, top officials, and others were present on the occasion.

Desai was serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court since February 26 this year.

Sixty-one-year-old Desai was born in Gujarat and began his career as an advocate

in his home state in 1985. He became an Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat in 2011 and was confirmed as a permanent judge in 2013.

His father Jitendra P Desai was also a judge of the Gujarat High Court.
