Kerala BJP accused of politicizing mysterious death of Muslim girl in religious school
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Despite the state government having formed a special investigation team, the Kerala BJP is found to be politicizing the mysterious death of a 17-year-old Muslim girl in a religious school in Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, by intensifying its protest
The Class 12 girl Asmiya was found dead by suicide in the school run by the Al-Aman Education and Charitable Trust on May 13 over the alleged mental harassment by a female teacher. However, the school authority has denied the charge raised by the girl’s family.
The BJP and its student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), activists held a protest march near the school, but the police intercepted the march, preventing it from proceeding further towards the school.
The special investigation team has reportedly intensified its probe and taken statements from a few students and others in the Trust.
A complaint filed by Asmiya’s mother, Rahmath Beevi of Beema Pally in the district, had alleged that circumstances surrounding her daughter's death were suspicious and that she was subjected to harassment at the institute.
At around 2 pm on May 13, Asmiya called her mother and asked her to reach the institution immediately. But the authorities allegedly did not allow Rahmath to meet Asmiya. Later, she was informed that her daughter was found dead in the bathroom.
