Kozhikode: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan ignited controversy on Monday as he referred to the Students' Federation of India (SFI) as an organization of "goondas" during a heated exchange with media personnel.

The incident unfolded just before the Governor was set to join a seminar in Kozhikode, where members of the SFI had staged protests outside the venue. Responding to questions about the protests, Governor Khan expressed his frustration, stating, "They are 'goondas' and not students. There are other student organizations too, but the SFI is an organization of 'goondas.'"

Challenged by a reporter on his choice of words, the Governor, visibly irritated, retorted, "Get lost," before walking into the seminar hall.

The situation further intensified as police erected barricades to prevent protesting students from approaching the meeting venue. Approximately 100 meters from the hall, several students managed to breach the barricade and were subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement.

The Governor's outburst has triggered a wave of reactions, with political leaders and student bodies condemning his remarks. The SFI, affiliated with the ruling CPI-M, is expected to respond formally to the allegations.

Observers speculate that this incident may have broader implications on the political landscape in Kerala, as it highlights the strained relations between the state government and the Governor's office.
