Palakkad: The Poolakkad village in Kerala's Palakkad on Sunday woke up to the sad news of the tragic passing of a 6-year-old boy. They could not bear the news that their beloved Aamil was found dead in his residence with his throat slit. What shocked them the most was that it was his own mother Shahida, a generally calm person who committed the crime. The shocking murder took place during the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Shahida is the wife of Sulaiman, a parcel lorry driver and a native of Puthuppally street near the city. It was the mother herself who phoned the police and informed them that she had killed her son. Shahida called the police control room at around 4 in the morning and informed that she had sacrificed her son.

The police team, who were inspecting the vehicles in Kannadi panchayath during the hour, immediately rushed to their house in Poolakkad.

Amil was strangled by his mother Shahida after he was taken to the bathroom and his both legs tied up, the police said. His body was found with the legs tied. Her husband Sulaiman and his two other children were asleep in an adjoining room and were not aware of the incident. Shahida, who is also a madrassa teacher, is three months pregnant.

She has not been going to work in the madrassa for a few months. Palakkad SP R Viswanath reached the spot for further investigation. Shahida, who was taken into police custody is now being questioned in detail. Her husband is also being questioned. Investigations have been going on to see if she was suffering from any mental illnesses.

Aamil's body will be brought home from the district hospital in the evening after the post-mortem. Following this, he was buried at Poolakkad Juma Masjid graveyard.
