Stalin extends Onam wishes, urges Keralites to boycott rebranding efforts

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conveyed his heartfelt Onam wishes to the public today while addressing the attempts to rebrand the festival and promote unity in a press note released on Monday.

In his message, Chief Minister Stalin expressed concerns about efforts to rebrand the culturally significant harvest festival of Onam as 'Vaamana Jayanthi,' attempting to detach it from its historical ties to Dravidian ideology. He emphasized that Onam has deep roots in Dravidian culture and cautioned against any attempts to undermine its identity.

"A section of people are trying to rob the identity of Onam which is intertwined with Dravidian culture. The people of Kerala will boycott these efforts," Stalin stated, underlining the unity of purpose among the people of Kerala against such rebranding initiatives.

Stalin's message extended beyond the cultural aspect, highlighting the importance of unity and equality in the broader Indian context. He called for a unified effort to elect a Union government that embraces everyone as equals, fostering a sense of togetherness across the country.

Chief Minister rallied for a united front against divisive elements and expressed his hope for a progressive political path inspired by the southern states. "Let this year be the one in which India in its entirety moves on a progressive political path put forth by the people of the south," he said, emphasizing the role of southern states in shaping a more inclusive future.

Drawing parallels with the legendary King Maveli, known for his commitment to unity and equality, Stalin urged citizens to strive for a society where these values are upheld. "Unity and equality must come back, the way they existed during the times of Maveli. We can stand united to bring in a Union government that sees everybody as equals," he passionately exclaimed.

Stalin concluded his message with warm Onam wishes for the Malayali community, demonstrating his commitment to cultural harmony and the preservation of traditional values.
