Thiruvananthapuram: As the number of tests increased, number of per day Covid 19 cases also took a leap on Wednesday after 5376 people were tested positive. 51,200 samples were tested on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram topped among the districts with most number of cases as 852 people were tested positive. Ernakulam -624, Malappuram -512, Kozhikode -504 districts also saw a surge in the number of newly reported cases.

Number of deaths owing to the infection also is seen climbing up as 20 deaths were declared as due to Covid 19.

Out of the total cases, 4424 people contracted the disease through local infection. The source of infection of 640 people is unknown. 90 health workers are also included among the newly infected.

On a positive note, 2,951 people were declared recovered from the disease. 42,786 people are undergoing treatment for the disease.

Number of hotspots in the state stands at 641 as 17 more places were included and 15 places were de-listed.
