Protest demanding Minister KT Jaleels resignation rock across state

Kozhikode: Protests by opposition parties and youth organisations, demanding the resignation of Minister KT Jaleel, who was quizzed by Enforcement Directorate in connection with the gold smuggling case, rocked the streets across the state on Saturday. The police used water cannons at several places to disperse the protesters.

Youth Congress, Yuva Morcha and Youth League were in forefront of the intensified protest.

Protests were held at various centers across the state. Police used water cannons against Youth League protesters who marched to City Police Commissioner's Office at Kozhikode. A scuffle broke out after the police placed barricades to stop the protesters.

Youth League state secretary PK Firoz inaugurated the protest. Later the Youth League workers staged a sit-in protest.

Congress workers also staged a march to the collectorate. Youth Congress workers blocked Kannur-Kozhikode National Highway.

Police used water cannons against the protesters at Kollam. Yuva Morcha workers burned an effigy of Jaleel at a protest in Alappuzha.

Yuva Morcha also marched to Jaleel's residence at Valancherry, Malappuram.

Mahila Congress workers staged a protest march to Secretariat.

The opposition youth organisations warned of continued protest till the minister quit the post.
