Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran lyricist in Malayalam films Poovachal Khader succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday midnight. He was 72.

He was under treatment for a while and suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at the state-run Medical College Hospital here, said family sources.

Poovachal Khader entered the Malayalam film industry in 1973 and wrote lyrics for over 400 Malayalam films for 1,500 Malayalam film songs, some of which have turned into immortal hits, in a career spanning over four decades till 2011.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Khader and described it as a huge loss to the social milieu of the state.

"He will probably go down as the person who wrote the maximum lyrics for the film industry. He will be very badly missed," said Vijayan.
