Dubai: Lulu Group chairman MA Yusuff Ali and the 'Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council', a mediation team headed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Kurian Joseph, said that all efforts are on to get the release of Nimisha Priya from the death row even by paying the blood money.

Nimisha Priya is in Yemeni jail, awaiting a death sentence, after being convicted for the murder of the Yemeni businessman named Talal Abdo Mahdi.

MA Yusuff Ali and Justice Kurian Joseph attended a meeting organised by the 'Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council' in Dubai on Wednesday.

A press release on the meeting said that the team has been taking efforts to extend all the means of legal help to get the release of Nimisha Priya, even by paying the Diya Money-Blood Money, depending on the verdict of the case in the Supreme Court of Yemen.

Nimisha Priya is a native of Palakkad in Kerala who had been running a clinic along with the slain Talal Abdo Mahdi since 2015 in Yemen. She was arrested for killing Mahdi in 2017 by injecting him with sedatives. She alleged that she endured torture and abuse at the hands of Mahdi for two years, and said she had not meant to kill him but it was an attempt to get her passport from his possession.

A trial court in Yemen pronounced the death penalty on her for the crime which was upheld by an appeal court in 2020.

The 'Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council' has been making sustained efforts to help her. A petition was filed in the Delhi High Court urging the Union government to step in and assist Nimisha, but the court refused to do so.
