An entire batch of ice-cream products has been recalled and the Daqiaodao Food plant was shut down as authorities discovered the presence of the novel coronavirus in batches of ice-cream at the factory.

Official statements from the city authorities say the employees are now being tested for COVID-19 and that the area had been quarantined. 29,000 cartons were in stock and the 300 that had been sold were not being tracked down the city government assured.

The ingredients included New Zealand milk powder and whey powder from Ukraine, the government said. Scientists and doctors had previously assured the public that the chances of contracting COVID-19 from food were not very high.

China has continued to claim that the COVID-19 virus was imported into the country in frozen foods and products although the statement has been met with intense scepticism from leading researchers and scientists.
