Jeddah: Abdullah Al Kathiri, an Omani traveller, has embarked on a 2,500-kilometre journey from his hometown of Salalah to Makkah in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the minor pilgrimage. His remarkable journey took him through diverse terrains and challenging weather conditions, including the vast sand desert known as the Empty Quarter, spanning four countries: Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen and the UAE.

Throughout his journey, Abdullah Al Kathiri encountered numerous challenges. From navigating through rough terrains to enduring harsh weather conditions, his determination remained unwavering. Despite the difficulties, Al Kathiri found solace and support from Yemeni tribes along the way, who provided him with the encouragement and assistance needed to continue his journey.

When asked about the motivation behind his extraordinary expedition, Al Kathiri expressed two primary reasons. Firstly, he sought to honour the tradition of his ancestors, who were known for their adventurous spirit and exploration. Secondly, he aimed to inspire young people to engage in sports and pursue their dreams fearlessly.

Carrying only the essentials, including some medicines and a mobile phone, Al Kathiri embarked on this arduous journey. His unwavering determination and steadfast resolve propelled him forward, culminating in his arrival at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Upon reaching his destination, Abdullah Al Kathiri was overwhelmed with a profound sense of peace and fulfilment, knowing that he had achieved something truly extraordinary.

Abdullah Al Kathiri's remarkable feat serves as an inspiration to individuals worldwide.
