Ramadan advisory, Saudi stresses face mask in holy mosques

Jeddah: As the sacred month of Ramadan unfolds, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has issued an important advisory for worshippers visiting the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
The Saudi General Directorate of Public Security, through the X platform, stressed the importance of wearing masks in the two holy mosques and their vicinities. This guidance comes at a crucial time when the Umrah season is at its peak, emphasising the health and safety of the pilgrims.
“Wearing a mask in the Two Holy Mosques, in Makkah and Madinah and their surrounding areas, protects you and others from disease infection”, said the X post.
This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring the well-being of everyone, safeguarding against the spread of infections during this significant religious gathering.
In anticipation of the increased influx of worshippers, the Makkah Health Cluster has meticulously readied its operational plans. Hospitals and health centres across the holy city are on high alert, prepared to offer comprehensive medical services throughout Ramadan.
Eight hospitals and 43 health centres have completed preparations for emergency care. This includes facilities like the Ajyad Emergency Hospital and three specialised centres in the Grand Mosque are equipped with the latest medical technologies and staffed by trained professionals, ready to handle any situation.
Ramadan holds immense spiritual significance, drawing Muslims globally to partake in Umrah and prayers. It's a time of deep faith and communal prayer, with the Grand Mosque becoming a focal point for devotion.
Umrah, the minor pilgrimage, is distinct from the Hajj. It can be undertaken anytime, offering a unique opportunity for Muslims to renew their faith and seek blessings in Islam’s holiest cities.
Recognising the importance of this spiritual journey, the Kingdom has streamlined access for pilgrims, facilitating their entry through various land, air and sea outlets, enhancing the experience of fulfilling this religious obligation.
