Saudi Arabia plans to make NEOM home to the world's largest buildings

Riyadh: NEOM, Saudi Arabia's future $ 500 billion mega-city that will be built on uninhabited land, will house the world's largest building. According to Bloomberg, the country is set to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the development of non-oil sectors.

According to the report, the NEOM will have twin skyscrapers about 500 meters in size, extending dozens of miles horizontally from the Red Sea coast to the desert. According to certain people who wish to remain anonymous, these buildings are a mix of residential, retail and office space.

While the initial plan for the mega-city was to build a range of developments that were connected by underground hyper speed rail, according to the new plan each structure will be bigger than the largest existing buildings in the world.

Saudi Arabia announced the NEOM project on October 24, 2017. The project aimed to function as a top tourist destination, and envisions NEOM a smart city that embraces all the latest technologies, according to the Arab News.

In collaboration with YouGov, Knight Frank's Annual 2022 Saudi Residential Survey was conducted recently. The survey found that NEOM is the most preferred location for homeowners in the country. First-time buyers and high-income individuals were reported to want to purchase a home at NEOM.
