Dubai: Engineer Maryam Bunfour has made history as the first female specialist in renewable energy investment and building efficiency improvement at Dubai Police. After graduating from the University of Sharjah with a degree in renewable and sustainable energy engineering in 2019, Maryam joined the General Department of Logistics Support.

In her current role, Maryam serves as the director of the energy efficiency improvement projects portfolio for Dubai Police buildings. This portfolio comprises three key projects aimed at enhancing sustainability within the organization.

One of the primary projects focuses on retrofitting Dubai Police buildings to optimize energy consumption and efficiency.

"The second involves installing solar panels on building rooftops and car park shades, integrating renewable and non-renewable energy sources in buildings towards supporting sustainable development goals; the third entails obtaining LEED certification for green buildings, implementing best practices in sustainable construction and renewable energy", said Maryam.

Maryam's innovative spirit has earned her recognition, including an intellectual property certificate for her research in waste-to-energy conversion in 2021. Additionally, she received the General Director’s Award for Best Specialist Civil Staff at the General Department of Logistic Support level.

Before her current position, Maryam contributed significantly to the Energy Rationalisation Section of the Environment, Health and Safety Public Administration. She also represented Dubai Police in various sports championships, including the Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament in 2022 and 2023, as well as the Gov Games in 2023.

Maryam's dedication to advancing sustainable practices led her and her team to visit the Johnson Controls Research and Development Centre in the US. During this visit, they explored best practices, equipment, and operational mechanisms related to energy management systems.

Maj Gen Ali Ghanem, Assistant Commandant for Logistics and Community Happiness Affairs, emphasized Dubai Police's vision to showcase the capabilities of Emirati women in diverse fields. He highlighted the importance of environmental security in the organization's objectives, evident through sustainable projects showcased at the COP28 conference.
