Dubai: The ruler of Abu Dhabi and UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, announced the appointment of his eldest son, Sheikh Khaled, as the crown prince of Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

In addition, he appointed his brother Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan as the vice president of the UAE, alongside Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. Furthermore, Sheikh Mohamed appointed his other brothers, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, as deputy rulers of Abu Dhabi.

At the age of 41, Sheikh Khaled has been appointed as the new crown prince of Abu Dhabi by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. Already a member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, Sheikh Khaled has overseen numerous large-scale development projects in the emirate.

Additionally, he chairs several important boards, such as the UAE Genomics Council, the executive committee of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and the Advanced Technology Research Council. Sheikh Khaled is married and has a son and two daughters.

The recent reshuffle at the top of Abu Dhabi's two biggest sovereign wealth funds resulted in Sheikh Tahnoun, who also controls a significant business empire and serves as the UAE's national security adviser, being named chairman of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed replaced himself with Sheikh Mansour, the owner of Manchester City football club, as chairman of Mubadala, Abu Dhabi's second-largest wealth fund.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the first president of the UAE and the architect of its formation in 1971, ruled until his death in 2004. He had appointed his eldest son, Sheikh Khalifa, as his successor, and after Sheikh Khalifa's death in May 2022, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed took over as UAE President.
