Chandigarh: The opposition Congress and the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal led in one seat each as counting of votes for two assembly seats in Punjab started Monday.

Congress candidate and former union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur led by over 8,000 votes over her Akali Dal opponent Bhagwan Dass Juneja in the Patiala assembly seat.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won the Patiala Lok Sabha seat in May this year, was trailed in the counting of votes.

In the Talwandi Sabo assembly seat, Akali Dal candidate Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu led over his Congress rival Harminder Singh Jassi by over 7,000 votes.
