Mukherjee is visiting Bhutan on the invitation of Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

He is accompanied by Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha and four MPs, including Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
