Delhis Trilokpuri under curfew, no fresh violence

New Delhi: Delhi's Trilokpuri area remained tense and under curfew Sunday though no new incident of violence was reported, police said, a day after five people were shot at during a communal clash.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar told IANS: "The situation is tense but under control. No fresh violence or clashes have been reported."

Following Thursday's clash between two groups of Hindus and Muslims over Diwali celebration, authorities imposed prohibitory orders banning illegal gatherings.

Police had detained around 70 people till Saturday night after the two groups stoned each other Friday. Following a brief period of calm, clashes erupted again and five people were shot at Saturday evening.

Police said 14 people, including 13 police personnel, were injured in the stoning. They were admitted to hospitals.

Police, the Rapid Action Force and the Central Reserve Police Force were deployed in the area along with over 30 police vans, water cannons and riot control vehicles.
