New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said in the Lok Sabha that whatever was happening in Jammu and Kashmir was without consultation with or consent of the Centre.

“I assure the House and the nation that the central government will not accept or compromise on the issue of country's integrity and security,” Modi said.

“I share the anguish of the House. So don't teach us patriotism,” PM said.

“Our government will take whatever necessary action is required,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the Opposition demanded a statement in Parliament from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the controversial release of separatist Masarat Alam from prison by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

"People like these can't be released without the government's support. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed must have consulted the Prime Minister as well," alleged Mallikarjun Kharge in the Lok Sabha.
