Hyderabad: Seven students who were on hunger strike in University of Hyderabad for the last four days were forcibly shifted to hospital on Saturday.

With the condition of the students deteriorating, police intervened to shift the protesters even as others tried to resist, leading to mild tension on the campus.

The students were on hunger strike to press for the demand for action against central minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Vice Chancellor Appa Rao and others allegedly responsible for the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula.

The Joint Action Committee for Social Justice said three students, who were in critical condition, were admitted to a multispeciality hospital, while four others were shifted to a health centre, where they were forced fed.

The JAC condemned the forceful eviction of the students. It said the "administration is scared of the fight against their Brahminical fascist ideology".

The umbrella group of various student organisations said it would continue the protest till justice is done to Rohith's family.
