New Delhi: Indian Railways' showpiece train service Rajadhani Express has got the first phase of its makeover under the 'Suvarna Coaches' scheme.

In renovated coaches at a cost of 35 lakh rupees, the Railway aims to provide a superior travelling experience to its passenger. The first to benefit from the scheme was the Delhi-Sealdah with the launching its service on Wednesday.

The coaches have been provided new interior design and fitted with new steps for easier climb to the upper berths.

Other attractions added to the coaches as part of the easily recognised makeover are CCVT cameras, LED lights, auto-janitors in toilets and larger storage space.

The pictures of these have been posted in Twitter by Railways. The tweet also says that as part of the Suvarna Coaches project, 14 Rajadhani Express and 15 Shatabdi Express trains will also undergo thorough renovation.

The next phase will cover three more trains including Howrah-New Delhi Rajadhani and Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express trains.
